The Best Treat Ever
It’s Halloween today and people will be wearing costumes, eating candy and scaring each other.
It’s a fun day.
Maybe the best part is looking at people in their costumes. People tend to choose costumes that bring out their hidden personality! And, we love figuring out who they are!
For one day, my daughter is a Mandalorian and my grandson, baby Yoda. My youngest son will be a Power Ranger and his girlfriend, a pumpkin.
What fun it is to see people differently. We feel connected, says Andy McNeilly, of Victoria, Australia. He presented at my conference Saturday and told us the power of stories as a means of connecting with others.
So, on this Halloween, I have the ultimate treat that you can give your students…
Give them a glimpse into who YOU are. Find 5 minutes today to tell a story about your favorite Halloween adventure as a child, teenager or adult. Make the story rich in details. If you got sick from too much candy, tell them! If you were scared to death of the vampire you ran into on the street, tell them! If you scared a person in the neighborhood, tell them!
You will become a real person to them and as you tell the story and see their faces, notice the warm feeling that YOU will have.
Connection does that.
